Un mari jaloux, une femme sur le point d'accoucher, des voisins qui bavardent, des jeunes qui rêvent d'échapper à la pauvreté… A jealous husband, a woman about to give birth, gossiping neighbours, young people dreaming of escaping poverty… Street Scene dépeint les habitants et les drames d’un immeuble vétuste de New York par une journée de canicule. portrays the residents and dramas of a run-down New York tenement on a sweltering summer day.
En mettant en musique la pièce du dramaturge Elmer Rice, Kurt Weill révèle la tragédie inhérente au quotidien de la classe moyenne new-yorkaise de l’entre-deux guerres. Installé aux États-Unis dès 1935 pour fuir le nazisme, le compositeur crée en 1947 un « opéra américain » qui fusionne dans une partition fluide les influences européennes et le musical de Broadway.Setting the play by Elmer Rice to music, Kurt Weill reveals the tragedy inherent in the daily life of New York’s working class between the wars. Having settled in the United States in 1935 to escape Nazism, the composer created in 1947 an “American opera” that fuses European influences and the Broadway musical in a fluid score.
Cette nouvelle production de This new production of Street Scene, interprétée par les chanteurs de l’Académie de l’Opéra national de Paris, est présentée à la MC93 – Maison de la Culture de Seine-Saint-Denis Bobigny, nouvelle étape d’un partenariat de longue date entre les deux institutions. , performed by the singers of the Académie de l’Opéra national de Paris, is presented at the MC93 – Maison de la Culture de Seine-Saint-Denis in Bobigny, a new chapter in a long-standing partnership between the two institutions.Street Scenes est dirigé par la cheffe d’orchestre Yshani Perinpanayagam et mis en scène par Ted Huffman. is conducted by Yshani Perinpanayagam and directed by Ted Huffman.
A partir de fragments de l’œuvre (d’où le « s » de son intitulé), le metteur en scène Ted Huffman conçoit un spectacle adapté à la grande salle de la MC93 comme au propos. Sans élément de décor, le dispositif est constitué d’une plateforme centrale autour de la fosse d’orchestre en contrebas, qui favorise une proximité et où s’ébrouent les chanteurs. L’animation est vive et constante, qui figure au mieux les déboires de ces prolétaires s’entrechoquant dans un même immeuble newyorkais. Une histoire caractéristique des temps et du lieu de ces États-Unis où Weill avait émigré, à travers son cadre social avec un couple appelé à mal finir et des amours contrariées ; une pièce forte et grinçante, bien dans l’esprit de ce compositeur hors normes.Working from fragments of the work (hence the “s” in its title), director Ted Huffman has designed a show suited both to the large hall of the MC93 and to its subject. With no set, the stage is a central platform surrounding the sunken orchestra pit, creating closeness as the singers frolic around it. The action is lively and constant, perfectly conveying the misfortunes of these working people colliding in the same New York building – a story typical of the time and place of the America to which Weill had emigrated, with its social setting, a couple doomed to end badly and thwarted loves; a strong, biting piece, true to the spirit of this extraordinary composer.

Ces dernières années, l’écologie est devenu un sujet de préoccupation majeur face aux alertes lancées notamment par le GIEC (Groupe d’experts intergouvernemental sur le changement climatique). Les forêts, primaires ou urbaines abrite 80% de la biodiversité terrestre et sont aujourd’hui en danger. Comprendre l’histoire, le présent des forêts peut nous permettre de penser son avenir.In recent years, ecology has become a major concern, prompted in particular by the warnings of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). Forests, whether primary or urban, are home to 80% of terrestrial biodiversity and are now under threat. Understanding the history and the present of forests can help us think about their future.

Construire avec de la terre ? « Une drôle d'idée », « C'est du passé ! » ou « C'est solide ? ». Voilà pour les préjugés. Et pourtant… Les constructions en terre abritent aujourd'hui encore 1/3 de la population mondiale ! Et c'est bien normal, la terre est disponible partout localement. On trouve en Irak ou au Yemen des bâtiments en terre de plusieurs centaines d'années, voire milliers d'années, parfois sur plusieurs étages. Chez nous, la terre était très présente en construction jusqu'au 19e siècle, notamment par son utilisation dans le « torchis ». Aujourd'hui, des fabricants, des entrepreneurs, des architectes et des chercheurs proposent de redonner à l'architecture en terre ses lettres de noblesse en adaptant les techniques traditionnelles aux exigences actuelles.Building with earth? “A strange idea”, “That’s the past!” or “Is it solid?”. So much for prejudice. And yet… Earth buildings still house a third of the world’s population today! And no wonder: earth is available locally everywhere. In Iraq or Yemen there are earth buildings hundreds, even thousands of years old, sometimes several storeys high. In France, earth was widely used in construction until the 19th century, notably in wattle and daub. Today, manufacturers, builders, architects and researchers are restoring earth architecture to its former glory by adapting traditional techniques to modern requirements.
